Undegraduate thesis is a final project that provides students with a learning experience to create a written scientific paper by applying scientific method and analysis to solve scientific problems through a research, and then presenting the results in writing and orally in order to complete bachelor degree program.
Next, the undegraduate thesis defense is held involving a board of examiners, and this board wil assess every part of the thesis such as the abstract, the content, the research method, the writing techniques, as well the depth of analysis of the thesis. Then, undergraduate thesis defense must be held under the approval of the head of the study program. This exam is regulated in Undergraduate Thesis Writing and Scientific Article Guidebook.
Requirements of Exam
Requirements for course and undergraduate thesis exams are as follows.

Assessment System
Assessment system generates information about the level of student achievement. In other words, the results of the assessment inform the performance of the students in their learning which is categorized into excellent, very good, good, average, poor, and very poor. The value of student achievement in each subject will be expressed in symbols of letters at the end of the semester, namely A (4), AB (3.5), B (3), BC (2.5), C (2), D (1), and E (0).
The learning assessment aimed to determine the learning outcomes of a student in every course is performed through the following procedures:
- Lecturer or Course Cordinator sets numerical score for assessment (from 0 to 100) indicating the learning outcomes of students in the course;
- Lecturer or Course Cordinator sets a relative assessment of student learning outcomes based on the following assessment standardization.
Letters Score Range Score
A 75 – 100 4
AB 70 – 74.9 3.5
B 65 – 69.9 3
BC 60 – 64.9 2.5
C 55 – 59.9 2
D 40 – 54.9 1
E 0 – 39.9 0
- The final score of each course must be uploaded at UACC by lecturer of course coordinator (PJMK) no later than two weeks after the final exams of the semester. Meanwhile, the printed form must be submitted to the administration of department.
Grade Conversion, Courses Conversion, and Credit Unit System (SKS) of Student Exchange Program
In relation to student exchange program, the Faculty of Humanities has established grade conversion, course conversion, and credit system unit recognition.
- Grade Conversion
- Course Conversion
Those conversions are made based on:
- Similarity in the content and the name of a course;
- Competence which includes the name of course, course code, credit, semester, prerequisite subject, competence, description, method, media, reference;
- Document Standard.
- Credit Conversion
- The number of credits earned at the proposed study program will be fully recognized by converting them to courses with similar competence in the bachelor Program of History, Department of History Universitas Airlangga;
- If the credits of a course earned at the proposed study program is not the same as the ones at the same course in the Department of History, Universitas Airlangga, the credit earned will then be converted into the credit of the same course offered by the Department of History; for example 4 credits was converted into 2 credits;
- If the courses pursued do not have the same competence as those offered by the Department of History, the results will be recognized as document supplement.
Grade Point
Semester Credit System recognizes two types of Grade Point, namely Semester Grade Point Average (IPS) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). Semester GPA is aimed to measure the achievement of the learning process of a student in courses during one semester, while the GPA is aimed to measure the achievement of the learning process of a student throughout the study.
Semester GPA (IPS) and Cumulative GPA can be calculated as follows:
IPS = Σ( Ks x N )
ΣKs
IPK = Σ( Kk x N )
ΣKk
Note:
Ks = the total number of credits taken in the given semester;
Kk= the total number of credits earned at previous semesters excluding the E value
N = the credit of each course
The Semester GPA is used to determine the amount of the credits allowed to be taken by the stduents at the following semeter.
GPA Improvement
Students receiving E value for compulsory subjects must improve their grade by retaking the courses in the following academic year or semester. The GPA can be improved by retaking the course. Students who retake the courses are still required to attend the lectures and exams.
Study Evaluation
Study results of students are evaluated in the following stages:
- Evaluation of semester study results is conducted at the end of each semester for courses programmed by students in the semester, known as Semester GPA (IPS);
- Evaluation of study result of Undergraduate Students (S1) is performed at the end of second year, at the end of fourth year, and at the end of seventh year;
- Evaluation results are used as a basis for determining whether students are allowed to continue or discontinue studies;
- Students are allowed to continue their studies if they have collected at least half the number of credits programmed into the curriculum with a minimum GPA of = 2.00;
- If students have collected the accumulated number of credits more than the minimum one with a GPA less than 2.00, the evaluation of the study results will be determined by calculating the best value as much as minimum credits;
- The minimum number of credits for each course is listed in the curriculum of each study program;
- Students are declared to have completed their studies if they have collected at least minimum credits of 144 with a minimum GPA of 2.00 either without E score, with D as much as 20% of the total credits taken, or at least C, and then have followed the graduate candidacy evaluation;
- If the GPA achieved is less than the required, the student may improve the value obtained as long as the allowed study deadline has not been exceeded;
- If students improve their value by retaking the course, the final value will be taken from the highest value achieved.
Total number of credits that must be obtained by students:
- Bachelor program in Indonesian: 144-160 credits
- Bachelor program in English: 144-160 credits
- Bachelor program in History: 144-160 credits
- Bachelor program in Japanese: 144-160 credits
- Diploma-to-Bachelor Transfer Program: 76-94sks

General Study Period
Study time limit is generally calculated based on a formula of 2n-1. n is the normal study period planned and determined by the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Airlangga, which is 4 (four) years or equals 8 semesters for bachelor program. Thus, the study time limit becomes (2 x 4) – 1 = 17 semesters or seven and a half years.
Special Study Period
- For transfer students, the study time taken in the previous faculty/college will be included in their eligible study time limit.
- For students in Diploma-to-Bachelor Transfer Program, the study time taken in the previous diploma program will be included in their eligible study time limit.
